Why this clinic exists

Beyond "your results are normal"

Too many people are told their thyroid is fine, or that their dose is right, while they still feel tired, cold, foggy and heavy. Alan's practice is built around finding out why.

He looks at how your thyroid makes, converts and uses its hormones, and at the nutrients, blood sugar, stress hormones, gut and liver that affect it. Alongside the Thyroid Clinic, Alan practises osteopathy in Llandudno and Menai Bridge, and he works alongside your GP and any specialists.

Why root cause matters

Two different questions

Standard care asks whether your TSH is in range. We also ask why you still don't feel well, and what is getting in the way of your thyroid hormones doing their job.

Standard thyroid testing

Is the TSH in range?

  • Usually TSH, sometimes free T4
  • Short appointments focused on the dose
  • Results read as "normal" or "abnormal"
  • Gut, adrenals and nutrients looked at separately, if at all
  • Success judged mainly by the blood test

Our thyroid assessment

Why do you still feel unwell?

  • Full thyroid panel: TSH, free T4, free T3, reverse T3 and antibodies
  • Long consultations covering diet, stress, sleep and history
  • Results read against functional ranges
  • Nutrients, blood sugar, adrenals, gut and liver looked at together
  • Success judged by how you feel, as well as your results

How it works in practice

What a root-cause analysis looks like

Tiredness on a "normal" TSH, for example, may come from poor conversion of T4 into active T3, driven by low selenium and iron, blood sugar swings and stress. Adjusting the dose alone won't fix that.

  1. Map the pattern

The Thyroid Profile and a detailed history.

  2. Measure, don't guess

Functional blood chemistry and targeted testing.

  3. Correct the drivers

A dietary protocol and personal plan.

  4. Track the change

    Follow-up consultations and retesting.

We work alongside your GP and never advise stopping or changing prescribed thyroid medication without their involvement.
